Statement of Faith
Our statement of faith based on the Westminster Confession of Faith, expressing our commitment to historic Christian doctrine and Reformed theology.
Our Confessional Foundation
Grace Reformed Church of Weiser subscribes to the Westminster Confession of Faith, The Heidelberg Catechism, The Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Definition of Chalcedon as our confessional standards. These historic documents represent the mature reflection of Reformed theologians on the teaching of Scripture.
These confessions are not our ultimate authority—that belongs to Scripture alone. Rather, they serve as faithful summaries of what we believe the Bible teaches on essential matters of faith and practice.
Of the Holy Scripture
The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience.
Key Points:
- •The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God
- •Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction
- •The authority of Scripture depends not upon the testimony of any man or church, but wholly upon God
- •The whole counsel of God concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man's salvation, faith, and life is either expressly set down in Scripture or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture
Of God and the Holy Trinity
There is but one only living and true God, who is infinite in being and perfection, a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts, or passions.
Key Points:
- •God is immutable, immense, eternal, incomprehensible, almighty, most wise, most holy, most free, most absolute
- •God has all life, glory, goodness, blessedness, in and of Himself
- •In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost
- •The Father is of none, neither begotten nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son
A Summary of Our Statement of Faith
As adopted by the National Association of Evangelicals.
Key Points:
- •We believe the Bible to be the only inerrant Word of God. It is our only ultimate and infallible authority for faith and practice.
- •We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is omnipotent, that is, He is all-powerful. He is omnipresent, that is, He is present throughout all Creation but not limited by it. He is omniscient, that is, nothing is hidden from His sight. In all things He is limited by nothing other than His own nature and character. We believe the God we serve is holy, righteous, good, severe, loving and full of mercy. He created the heavens and earth, and everything in them, in the space of six ordinary days, and all very good. He is the Creator, Sustainer, and Governor of everything that has been made.
- •We believe in the true deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.
- •We believe in the full deity of the Holy Spirit, acknowledging Him together with the Father and the Son in the works of creation and redemption.
- •We believe that because of Adam's sin all mankind is in rebellion against God. For the salvation of such lost and sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary.
- •We believe that salvation is by grace through faith alone, and that faith without works is dead.
- •We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
- •We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and lost; those who are saved to the resurrection of life, and those who are lost to the resurrection of damnation. We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our Commitment
We are committed to these truths not merely as intellectual propositions, but as the living foundation of our faith and practice. These doctrines shape how we worship, how we live, and how we serve one another and our community. If you have questions about any of these articles or would like to discuss them further, we would be delighted to meet with you. Our elders are available to explain and defend these truths from Scripture.
